“Nich,” a reconnaissance UAV operator, has been through a difficult journey and has been forced to become a displaced person twice. In 2015, he left his hometown of Donetsk. In 2022, the war once again forced him to evacuate his family, this time from Kostiantynivka. Immediately after getting his family to safety in western Ukraine, he went to the military recruitment center and left for service just two hours later.
He began his service in the Presidential Brigade as a reconnaissance soldier on foot before later joining a unit operating unmanned aerial systems. On the front line, his greatest challenge remains being separated from his eight-year-old daughter and missing the years of her growing up. She is genuinely proud of her father and sends him touching drawings to the front with the words, “My hero.”
For “Nich,” this bond with his daughter is his main source of strength during the war. He believes his victory will come when he can finally return home and never again be separated from his family.
